In the "olden days" the men worked for the gold watch and the big retirement honorarium, while the women held down the homefront or did other kinds of care- giving jobs. Roles were rigid and choices were slim. That was then and this is now. We live in a time in history where more and more people are creating their own employment based on their passions and gifts and where most of us no longer belief we work as a means to an end and it is icing on the cake if we actually like our job/career.

I have practiced in the Silicon Valley area for 21 years and began to see men and women in the mid to late 1990's increasingly seeking jobs and careers that would be very satisfying for them on a number of levels. Since the millenium the quest for what I term "divine right livelihood" has been logarythmic in my clients and friends. People seem to be wising up and understanding work is 60% or more of our life and if it is not compatible with who we are it will drain us and shorten our life. I see so many adults now unwilling to keep working in jobs which don't reflect anything about who they are and what they have to offer. People are seeking passion in their livelihood!

In the coaching journey we will start by having you identify and define your life purpose. Life purpose is not a " pie in the sky concept". I had the pleasure of working with allot of dot.com execs or managers who lost their jobs and identities in 1996 (250,000 adults lost their jobs in the Silicon Valley crash). We first took some time to process the shock of course and then moved to defining life purpose. There are relatively simple processes to assist you to define this very important truth.

For many this was a life transforming opportunity- they had been doing the corporate routine forever and finally had in many cases well over a year to stay still and take a deep look at who they really were and what they really wanted to do. Some people left the bay area or the state for a more serene life, some creating their own start-up businesses outside the corporate world. Some took the time to be with family, travel and be creative and out of that became artists or went back to school. And finally some returned to corporate America one to three years later with very new work values and boundaries. The bottom line is those who took the time out to invest in themselves ended up in very fulfilling positions and happier than ever before.

When you are clear on your life purpose you can narrow down the fields and arenas that will allow you to embody all its aspects. You may be one of the 10% that embarks on self-employment. It is imperative that you really like your job or career, hopefully you are down-right passionate about it. We will not stop until you have found that fit!

I luckily knew my life purpose in my early twenties and chose a career of psychotherapy, facilitation, and teaching . One year ago I added coaching - each role is a little different but all reflect my own life purpose well.

"My life purpose is to be a Magician and Lightworker in the realms of the spirit and heart. It is to touch, empower, and inspire all who choose to work or be with me briefly or for long durations. I wish to reach as many people as possible though efficient mediums which do not compromise my need for inner harmony, privacy or family committments. It is equally important to be a creative, balanced and inspired mother to my daughters and a passionate, challenging and supportive partner to my beloved. Above all I intend an extraordinary life filled with spirit, magic, adventure, sensuality and love."

I have always loved my work. Loving your career is one of the most significant keys to happiness and longevity.

Finally, a note about money. We have all heard, "do what you love and the money will follow". Of course you can choose to make lots of money doing things you hate or are nuetral to and convince yourself you have no options. To you that I can only say I have witnessed hundreds of stories to the contrary and as insane as it many seem to you to let go of a secure career that you dislike, is it not more insane to think of being anxious, irritated , bored, perhaps even ill as a daily choice. You can have a career that meets all your needs, generates all the money you need, and then some!
