Transitions include divorce, loss, recovery from addictions, pregnancy, parenthood, career shifts and deep spiritual searching. Transition has 3 distinct parts; something Ends- ie. a job, a relationship, a parent dies, your health suddenly deteriorates. This is followed by the Nuetral Zone. The Nuetral Zone can last 6 months to 2 years and is a time this culture tends not to honor enough. In the Neutral Zone one is not supposed to know the answer to what is next, rather delve into the options and try on lots of different things. This is a time to create temporary structures/projects that allow you to feel centered- i.e. take up yoga, an art project you always wanted to do, clear all the old stuff out of your home and re- arrange it, go on a long trip. All these structures allow you to keep exploring and feeling deeply what the next step in your life is, so that when you enter the final stage it is a solid, well-researched choice that really serves you and makes you happy. This final stage in the transition process is the New Beginning. Throughout all phases of major life transition it is normal to experience a roller coaster of feelings that change quickly- sad, excited, scared, curious, overwhelmed - let yourself have them all. Accept them all. Major life transitions, though inherently stressful, can with skillful negotiation become deeply satisfying and even transformational experiences. Groups and individual work offered.
